Polaroid Swap Project – Jessica McDade

After a long day at work, I came home to find a lovely surprise in the mail! I received another polaroid for the Polaroid Swap Project! This one is from my “knock-out” gorgeous Floridan friend, Jessica McDade, a.k.a. love2snap on Instagram and on tumblr. She sent me a lovely polaroid of a beautiful swan, which was taken at her favorite place to go on long walks, Lake Eola. She also printed her own photograph on the envelope… I absolutely LOVE it! Thanks so much, Jess! Words cannot describe how much I love love love it. I’m so happy to have a new swan friend to look at everyday.

Polaroid Swap Project – Marcel Naumann
On Saturday, I received a “love”ly batch of polaroids in the mail for my Polaroid Swap Project! These are all from my friend, a.k.a. my Polaroid Pen Pal in Germany, Marcel! He put so much time, energy, and thought into this project! I was only expecting one polaroid, but he sent me an entire series of polaroids… 9 total! He also took the time to write an 11 page letter, in which he shared the inspiration behind each photo he took for this series. In his letter, he explained that he wasn’t sure what to photograph at first… he thought about shooting his most cherished material possessions, but he wanted to do something different. He thought long and hard about “love” and what it means to him. With no specific subject matter in mind, he decided to set out on foot in his neighborhood and aimlessly searched for symbols of love around him. As he described it, all happened “on the flow”.
Not only did I love his photos, I loved his creative approach to the task and the fact that he eagerly took it upon himself to “challenge the challenge”. I learned so much about him through his polaroids, and that’s exactly what this whole project is about. So thank you so much, Marcel! I’ll be sending you some polaroids in the mail very shortly. I also look forward to swapping more polaroids with you in the near future!
About the Polas (Left-to-Right, Top-to-Bottom):
(1) The Couple
“I much liked how they holded hands so I decided to include one “street photo” in the series. It visualizes “love” very well, I think. Unfortunately only the woman with her husband’s hand landed on the photo (I didn’t look through the viewfinder).”
(2) A Couple Being Young Again
“I was quite shy to shoot that one, I’m sure they noticed I took the photo. We were alone in the streets and it was quiet… didn’t even look through the viewfinder too – and I ‘misframed’ a bit, but I think it’s still a great capture.”
(3) Mummy + Daughter
“German street sign. The blue sign is the sign in Germany, that says “from here on, only pedestrians… no bikes, no cars…” But one can also interpret it as love between mummy and daughter. =)”
(4) McDonalds
“A left bag that once carried McDonalds junk food… hah… I’m proud that McDonalds came to my mind, it’s everywhere known… their ad “I’m loving it / ich liebe es / j’taime / et cetera… in all languages.”
(5) Shop Intim
“The black shop saying “shop intim” was my first photo actually – it’s a sex shop. Haha. =)”
(6) Window of a Jeweler
“This idea came spontaneously as I was walking through the streets. =)”
(7) ☺
“… well… no comments on that one…” (Photo of a condom vending machine).
(8) Häagen-Dazs Ad
“Ich Liebe is German and means I love.”
(9) Pola #01
“You can see me. Haha. =) There was exactly one shot left in the cam and I wanted to shoot me, so you get a clue about whom your swapping polaroids with… “
Thank you again, Marcel! Till we swap again…
Polaroid Swap Project – Jens Bogaerts

I received my first polaroid for the Polaroid Swap Project! This one is from my Belgium buddy, Jens Bogaerts! It’s a 600 film polaroid of his beloved Canon EOS-3 camera equipped with a 50mm f/1.4 lens and a battery grip. I have the exact same set up. He also sent me another print… a photo taken in France, at Cap Blanc Nez. It looks like such a beautiful place. I love both photos so much! Thank you Jens! I’ll send you a polaroid in the mail shortly!

Sorry I for the lack of posts here… I’ve actually been posting more on my tumblr account, Cassy’s Outtake. It’s getting a little hard for me to keep up with two blogs.
